Hypno analysis

So what does it mean when a hypnotherapist tells you they are trained in hypno analysis or work as a hypno analyst? What makes it difference from normal hypnotherapy?

Hypno-analysis is not neccesarily the best name for the work we do but to sum it up, it means that the therapist is trained in more compklex techniques than pure suggestion work. A hypno-analyst is trained in regression techniques such as free association and regression to cause. This means that the therapist will work with the client so the client will regress to parts of their lives that are contributing to the problems happening in their lives now.

For example, low self esteem sufferers will normally have memories of being told they were stupid, not good enough, or that they are a failure in some way. Regression allows the client to find these painful memories and allows them to release any emotion linked to the memory and use their adult logic to intepret the situation differently. As an adult we understand there were times when we misbehaved and our parents would have got so infuriated with it they may have said something they did not mean, but as a child we don't know that they don't mean it and we accept any negative comments as true.

When the client comes across a significant memory, they will experience what is called an abreaction. This is when they release the emotion associated with that memory.

So when might a hypnotherapist use analysis techniques?

The list is huge and really depends on the individual client but here are a few examples:
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • weight loss
  • problems with alcohol
  • insomnia
  • low mood
  • IBS
  • & much more

Thames Valley Business Exhibition Bracknell

Hello!

This afternoon I attended my first business exhibition to promote my hypnotherapy corporate services. The event ran from 12 until 14:30 and was reasonably busy with approx 70 people through the door. Its a small exhibition but a good place to start.

I met some interesting people and gave out a few brochures. I now have to follow up these leads and see if I can turn them into work.

Below is an image of my stand taken on my iphone:

I am now planning my next event and will update you with details soon.

Thanks,

Catherine

Gastroenterological disorders and hypnotherapy

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS as its commonly known is often percieved as a blanket term for anyone suffering with gut problems but with no obvious medical cause. Working as a clinical hypnotherapist, I am surprised at the number of IBS suffers, or those with Crohns who have not looked into treatments outside of modern medicine.

Going to the Dr, there is little they can do for you except prescribe medication. In actual fact, it wasn't until about 10 years ago or so that specific medication became available for IBS.

So why is it that some people suffer with bloating, constipation, a runny tummy, and severe pain yet there is no identifiable medical cause?

Hypnotherapy can help suffers in two ways
  1. Suggestion work can be used to realign the mind body connection so that you can manipulate the workings of your bowels (research links below)
  2. Sometimes IBS is caused by something emotional that the sufferer may or may not be consciously aware of. Hypnoanalysis can work to help the client uncover the emotional cause of IBS, relieving them from both the symptom and the cause.
Hypnotherapy is a fast therapy so symptoms may begin to  be relieved after only a couple of sessions.

Peter Whorwell (a Professor at the University of Manchester) is one of the leading hypnotherapists and researchers in this area. In 1984 Peter Whorwell started his research and  conducted a study using thoroughly placebo-controlled experimentation. Thirty patients with severe symptoms unresponsive to other treatment were randomly chosen to receive 7 sessions of hypnotherapy (15 patients) or 7 sessions of psychotherapy plus placebo pills (15 patients). The psychotherapy group showed a small but significant improvement in abdominal pain and distension, and in general well-being but not bowel activity pattern. The hypnotherapy patients showed a dramatic improvement in all central symptom. The hypnotherapy group showed no relapses during the 3-month follow-up period.

Hypnotherapy is so succesful for the treatment of IBS that the NHS is now employing Clinical Hypnotherapists to work with patients in their gastroenterology departments and are conducting funded research looking into the positive effects of hypnotherapy on IBS.

National Stress Awareness Day 3rd November 2010

National Stress Awareness Day is an annual campaign organised by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA). ISMA will offer free advisory sessions during the first week in November for people who are suffering from stress at work or home.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I have a large number of clients who come to me suffering stress. Quite often they have left it until the stress is so bad and they are unable to cope.

But stress can be combatted earlier and one of the first things you can do is learn to spot the signs.
Symptoms of stress include:
  • Headaches
  • Always thinking about a specific topic (e.g. work or home problem)
  • Suffering lethargy and being constantly tired
  • Nightmares or difficulty getting to sleep or waking up in the night for no reason
  • Being unusually bad tempered and snappy
  • Over eating or under eating compared to normal
It is also important to understand what the symptom is that is causing you stress. Is it a particular job, is it a person, is it work related, is it your relationship?

Hypnotherapy helps with stress in a number of ways. Firstly, hypnosis is intense relaxation that many stress sufferers have not experienced for a while. It gives you the opportunity to really rest. I also teach my clients self hypnosis so they can relax whenever and whereever they want. Secondly, I use a number of NLP techniques to help you manage the stress and change the way you think and react so that certain stressors no longer effect you. Thirdly, stress now might be a symptom of something emotional underlying that has not been dealt with.

I explore all angles with my clients so I can give them the therapy and tools they need to help themselves.

Stress is a serious thing. It not only impacts on the individual but has an effect on their friends and family, their workplace and their colleagues. It can lead to anxiety and depression and if not tackled appropriatley, can have serious consequences. More and more people are being signed off work with stress-related illness. This can be reduced significantly by taking away the negative stigma attached to stress and replacing it with tools to help people.

Sure Life Hypnotherapy provides one to one confidential hypnotherapy sessions. In addition to seeing clients privately, I also work in the corporate domain offering my services to companies and their employees.

Weight Loss and Hypnotherapy

Do you want or need to lose weight? Do you want to lose it permanently, safely and without having to ‘go on a diet’? Do you want a weight reduction tool that you can use forever, is proven and does not require diet pills?
Hypnotherapy for weight loss is incredibly powerful. Why? Hypnotherapy works directly with your subconscious to create positive change and permanent change so that you can lose at least 1lb a week if not more, sensibly and easily.
Here are a few tips from me on successful, permanent and easy weight loss:
  • 1.        Change your language – Use weight reduction rather than weight loss. Our minds perceive a loss as something negative and so will work against you. To quote Devin Hastings “Words carry weight to you and from you”.
  • 2.       Make a simple change – cut out 1/6 of your meal and throw it straight in the bid – you won’t miss it and eventually you will have better portion control
  • 3.       Exercise – most people hate that word. But why not try something that is realistic for you. Start by taking a 10 minute walk before dinner. Time it – 5 minutes away from your house and 5 minutes back. After a week, increase it to 10 minutes each way. Build up slowly and that way you will stick with it forever.
  • 4.       Cut 50 calories a day – that isn’t much!
  • 5.       If you like your ‘naughty’ foods try scheduling when you have them so once a fortnight have a day where you can eat whatever you want. The rest of the time, stick to eating what’s good for you.
I undertook a training course in hypnotherapy and weight loss so I have a number of tools and techniques to help you not only reduce weight safely and permanently, but also help you resolve any food issues you have.
