Hypno-analysis is not neccesarily the best name for the work we do but to sum it up, it means that the therapist is trained in more compklex techniques than pure suggestion work. A hypno-analyst is trained in regression techniques such as free association and regression to cause. This means that the therapist will work with the client so the client will regress to parts of their lives that are contributing to the problems happening in their lives now.
For example, low self esteem sufferers will normally have memories of being told they were stupid, not good enough, or that they are a failure in some way. Regression allows the client to find these painful memories and allows them to release any emotion linked to the memory and use their adult logic to intepret the situation differently. As an adult we understand there were times when we misbehaved and our parents would have got so infuriated with it they may have said something they did not mean, but as a child we don't know that they don't mean it and we accept any negative comments as true.
When the client comes across a significant memory, they will experience what is called an abreaction. This is when they release the emotion associated with that memory.
So when might a hypnotherapist use analysis techniques?
The list is huge and really depends on the individual client but here are a few examples:
- anxiety
- stress
- weight loss
- problems with alcohol
- insomnia
- low mood
- IBS
- & much more
