National Stress Awareness Day is an annual campaign organised by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA). ISMA will offer free advisory sessions during the first week in November for people who are suffering from stress at work or home.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I have a large number of clients who come to me suffering stress. Quite often they have left it until the stress is so bad and they are unable to cope.
But stress can be combatted earlier and one of the first things you can do is learn to spot the signs.
Symptoms of stress include:
- Headaches
- Always thinking about a specific topic (e.g. work or home problem)
- Suffering lethargy and being constantly tired
- Nightmares or difficulty getting to sleep or waking up in the night for no reason
- Being unusually bad tempered and snappy
- Over eating or under eating compared to normal
Hypnotherapy helps with stress in a number of ways. Firstly, hypnosis is intense relaxation that many stress sufferers have not experienced for a while. It gives you the opportunity to really rest. I also teach my clients self hypnosis so they can relax whenever and whereever they want. Secondly, I use a number of NLP techniques to help you manage the stress and change the way you think and react so that certain stressors no longer effect you. Thirdly, stress now might be a symptom of something emotional underlying that has not been dealt with.
I explore all angles with my clients so I can give them the therapy and tools they need to help themselves.
Stress is a serious thing. It not only impacts on the individual but has an effect on their friends and family, their workplace and their colleagues. It can lead to anxiety and depression and if not tackled appropriatley, can have serious consequences. More and more people are being signed off work with stress-related illness. This can be reduced significantly by taking away the negative stigma attached to stress and replacing it with tools to help people.
Sure Life Hypnotherapy provides one to one confidential hypnotherapy sessions. In addition to seeing clients privately, I also work in the corporate domain offering my services to companies and their employees.

Hmm... I have some of these symptoms but just put them down to other things... maybe it's actually the stress!
